About Erigeron blochmaniae Greene
Erigeron blochmaniae Greene is a species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae. It is commonly known as Blochman's erigeron and Blochman's leafy daisy. This species is endemic to California, restricted to the coastline of San Luis Obispo County and northern Santa Barbara County. It grows in sand dune and coastal hillside habitats, which are currently declining because the land is being developed. It is a perennial herb that grows from a thick, woody caudex or rhizome, reaching 40 to 80 centimeters (16 to 32 inches) in height. Narrow, straight leaves are evenly spaced along its stem; each leaf measures 1 to 3 centimeters (0.4 to 1.2 inches) long. An inflorescence grows at the tip of each hairy stem. Each flower head is just over 1 centimeter (0.4 inches) wide, holding light blue, lavender, or white ray florets that surround golden yellow or greenish disc florets.
