About Erica irregularis Benth.

Erica irregularis, commonly known as the Gansbaai heath, is a species of flowering plant in the genus Erica, that grows as part of South Africa's fynbos biome. This plant is native to the Western Cape, where its range extends from Stanford to Gansbaai. Only three populations of this species are currently known to exist. The species is extremely popular for use as cut flowers, and overharvesting for this use threatens its survival. There is currently no legislation in place to protect Erica irregularis. Additional threats to the species include habitat degradation from the growth of invasive rooikrans, and threats from uncontrolled wildfires.
