About Eriastrum luteum (Benth.) H.Mason

Eriastrum luteum is a species of flowering plant in the phlox family, with the common names yellow woollystar and yellow-flowered eriastrum. This wildflower is endemic to California, and is only found in Monterey and San Luis Obispo Counties. It is a small annual plant that rarely grows up to the maximum height of 25 centimeters. It bears occasional thin, threadlike leaves covered in a layer of woolly hairs. The inflorescence is a cluster of leaflike green or reddish bracts that are densely coated in cobwebby white wool, and hold bright yellow flowers.
