About Eresia lansdorfi (Godart, 1819)

Eresia lansdorfi is a species with a wingspan of approximately 60 millimetres, which equals 2.4 inches. The upper surface of its wings is black. Its forewings have a yellowish stripe running through the base, and the postdiscal area, including the costal bar, is light red brown. The hindwings of this species have a pale yellow transverse band. This medium-sized species practices Batesian mimicry of two local subspecies: one of Heliconius erato, which gives the species its common name, and one of Heliconius melpomene. The larvae of Eresia lansdorfi feed on Ruellia brevifolia. This species occurs in Brazil, Northern Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Peru.
