About Eremomela icteropygialis (Lafresnaye, 1839)
The yellow-bellied eremomela (scientific name Eremomela icteropygialis (Lafresnaye, 1839)) is a very small bird. It measures 10 cm in length and weighs approximately 9 g. Its upperparts are grey, turning darker and more olive in color on the wings and tail. It has a thin pale grey supercilium and a blackish stripe that runs through the eye. Its grey breast fades into a lemon yellow belly, and its bill is blackish. Subspecies of this bird differ in how extensive and intense the yellow coloring on their bellies is; individuals from western southern Africa have whitish throats and breasts. Male and female yellow-bellied eremomelas look similar, but juvenile birds have duller yellow underparts than adults. The species’ call is a high-pitched, repeated tchee-tchee-tchuut.
