About Eremnophila aureonotata (Cameron, 1888)
Eremnophila aureonotata, commonly called the gold-marked thread-waisted wasp, is a species that belongs to the family Sphecidae, the group known as "thread-waisted wasps". This species is distributed across North and South America. Individuals are primarily black in color, with two pairs of gold patches made of setae: one pair is located on the side of the thorax, and the other on the propodeum. Adult wasps of this species drink nectar for nutrition, while their larvae feed on caterpillars. Female Eremnophila aureonotata dig vertical burrows in sand or hard-packed loam. They lay their eggs in these burrows, and provision each nest with a single caterpillar to feed developing larvae.
