About Eragrostis ciliaris (L.) R.Br.

Eragrostis ciliaris, commonly known as gophertail lovegrass, is a grass species belonging to the family Poaceae. It is native to the Old World Tropics, including nearly all of Africa, Madagascar, other Indian Ocean islands, the Arabian Peninsula, the Indian Subcontinent, Myanmar, Vietnam, Taiwan, the Philippines, and a number of Pacific islands. It has been introduced to the New World Tropics and Subtropics, ranging from the southern United States to Argentina, as well as the Caribbean and other Pacific islands. The seeds of Eragrostis ciliaris are edible and nutritious, but they are quite small and difficult to harvest and handle. For this reason, the species is usually regarded as a famine food.
