About Equisetum laevigatum A.Braun & Engelm.

Equisetum laevigatum is a horsetail species belonging to the Equisetaceae family. It has two common names: smooth horsetail and smooth scouring rush. This plant is native to most of North America, excluding northern Canada and southern Mexico. It typically grows in moist areas with sandy or gravelly substrates. It can be either an annual or perennial plant. It produces narrow green stems that sometimes grow to heights over 1.5 meters (4 ft 11 in). The leaves at its stem nodes are small, scale-like brownish sheaths, and small, spindly branches occasionally develop. Rounded cone-shaped sporangia grow at the tops of the stems.
