Epophthalmia vittata Burmeister, 1839 is a moderately sized dragonfly. It has bluish-green eyes and a dark brown thorax, with yellow stripes along the sides of the thorax. Its abdomen is dark reddish-brown, and has yellow ring-shaped markings on segments 1 through 9. This species breeds in weedy tanks and ponds. Adult dragonflies of this species can be found far from these breeding habitats. During the day, they soar tirelessly at high elevations, and occasionally gather in small swarms.
