About Episyron rufipes (Linnaeus, 1758)

Episyron rufipes (Linnaeus, 1758) individuals range from 8 to 12.5 mm in total length. Adult wasps are primarily black, with white spots on the abdomen. The middle tibia and femur of the two rear legs are colored red. This species occurs in dry sandy habitats, including coastal dunes, landslips, and grasslands. It can also be found in inland heathlands such as Breckland, gravel pits, and gardens that sit on sandy soils. Its distribution extends from Western Europe east to Central Asia. In Britain, it is widespread and locally common in southern coastal areas, reaching as far north as Yorkshire and Lancashire. It becomes less common in the northern parts of Britain.
