About Epipedobates anthonyi (Noble, 1921)

Anthony's poison arrow frog, Epipedobates anthonyi, has an average snout-to-vent length between 19 and 26 mm (0.7 to 1.0 inches). It has short, robust hind legs. Its dorsal surface is usually dark red or brown, marked with several yellowish-white oblique stripes and one central longitudinal stripe. Newly metamorphosed young froglets measure 11 mm in snout-to-vent length. This species is only found at a limited number of locations in southwestern Ecuador and northwestern Peru, at elevations ranging from 153 to 1,769 m (502 to 5,804 ft) above sea level. Its natural habitat is leaf litter on the floor of tropical dry forests, particularly close to streams. It can also be found in modified human-altered habitats, including areas near roads, and on banana and cacao farms.
