About Epinotia maculana (Fabricius, 1775)

Epinotia maculana is a moth species that belongs to the family Tortricidae. It can be found in most regions of Europe, excluding Iceland, the Iberian Peninsula, Ukraine, and most of the Balkan Peninsula, with its range extending eastward to the eastern part of the Palearctic realm. The wingspan of adult moths measures 17–23 mm. The forewings are ashy-grey; their basal portion is dark and clouded, and the apical portion is marked with wavy, slender black streaks. There is an obscure black dot toward the inner margin before the middle of the wing, and a larger red-brown mark toward the anal angle, which is nearly not visible. The hindwings are brown and shiny. Adult Epinotia maculana are active and on wing from August to October. The larvae feed on Populus tremula, and may also feed on other Populus species. They feed inside rolled leaves of their host plants.
