About Epimedium pinnatum DC.

Epimedium pinnatum DC. is a species of flowering plant belonging to the barberry family, Berberidaceae. It is native to northern Iran. This plant is a slowly-spreading evergreen perennial that reaches 30 cm (12 in) in both height and width. It produces oval, hairy leaves, and bright yellow spurred flowers bloom from late spring to early summer. The Latin specific epithet pinnatum translates to "with leaves growing on either side of the stalk". One of its subspecies, E. pinnatum subsp. colchicum, has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. It grows best in moist, fertile soil located in a sheltered, partially shaded spot, and is well-suited for underplanting beneath shrubs and trees.
