About Epilucina californica (Conrad, 1837)

Epilucina californica (Conrad, 1837) is a species of small saltwater clams belonging to the family Lucinidae. Its current distribution ranges from central California to Baja California. Historical records note that its range once extended from Crescent City to San Diego. The oldest known fossil of this species comes from Miocene deposits in Japan. This fossil evidence suggests the species likely originated in the Eastern North Pacific, expanded its range in the past, and was later restricted to its current smaller range.
