About Epilobium palustre L.

Epilobium palustre L. is a hairy perennial herb that produces spindly stems that sometimes grow over half a meter tall. Its stems bear spaced oval to linear leaves that measure 2 to 7 centimeters long. The tips of the stems hold hairy inflorescences made up of small white or pink flowers. The stigma of this species is club-shaped, not 4-lobed. Each flower has four petals that can range from quite tiny to almost one centimeter long, and each petal is notched to form two lobes. The fruit is a hairy capsule that is 3 to 9 centimeters long. Individuals from different habitats show high morphological diversity. In the British Isles, this species is locally common. In Croatia, its distribution is scattered, it is expected to occur in all regions far enough from the coast, and its presence depends on endangered wetland habitats.
