About Epilobium alpestre (Jacq.) Krock.
Epilobium alpestre (Jacq.) Krock. is a perennial herbaceous plant that typically grows 30 to 100 cm (12 to 39 inches) tall. It has a short rhizome, and a robust, erect, hollow stem. Its leaves are usually broadly lanceolate, with pointed tips and rounded bases, irregularly toothed margins, and arranged in whorls of 3 or 4. The inflorescences are simple and elongated. The radially symmetrical flowers measure 8 to 18 millimeters long, have a long tube, and bear four separate, pointed sepals that are shorter than the petals. The pink corolla is 1 to 1.5 cm wide, made up of four slightly indented petals, and the flower also has eight stamens. The fruit is a long capsule that opens via four valves. The spindle-shaped seeds are approximately 1.8 millimeters long, with a narrow tapered base. This species flowers from July to September. Epilobium alpestre is found in Central and Southern Europe, primarily in the Alps, as well as in Western Asia. It grows in high mountain habitats at elevations between 800 and 2,500 metres (2,600 and 8,200 ft) above sea level.
