About Epidendrum flexuosum G.Mey.
Epidendrum flexuosum G.Mey. is classified in the subgenus E. subg. Amphiglottium, and shares the subgenus's characteristics. It grows with a sympodial habit, producing slender, unswollen stems covered by tight distichous sheaths that are leafy along the upper sections of the stem. Its inflorescence grows at the end of the stem and is covered from its base by distichous sheaths, and the lip is adnate to the column all the way to the column's apex. The ligulate leaves have a small notch at their obtuse tip. The entire stem, including the peduncle, is flattened. Consistent with the features of section E. sect. Schistochila, the inflorescence is a raceme, and the lip is lacerate. The lilac flowers are non-resupinate. The dorsal sepal is lanceolate and recurved, the lateral sepals are falcate, and the petals are rhombic with lightly fringed to irregular margins. Consistent with the features of subsection E. subsect. Carinata, the lip is trilobed and bears a central keel, or carina, running down its center. For E. flexuosum specifically, the lip is nearly oval; Dodson & Bennett (1989) describe it as "lip obscurely 3-lobed". The column is slightly S-shaped. The chromosome number of one individual collected in Mamirauá, Brazil has been recorded as 2n = 28.
