About Epiblema strenuana (Walker, 1863)

Epiblema strenuana, commonly known as the stem-galling moth or ragweed borer, is a species of moth belonging to the family Tortricidae. This species is endemic to North America, but it was intentionally introduced from Mexico to Australia in 1982 for biological control of weeds in the family Asteraceae, specifically Xanthium occidentale, Ambrosia artemisiifolia and Parthenium hysterophorus. The scientific name is occasionally misspelled as Epiblema strenuanum. The wingspan of Epiblema strenuana is around 15 millimeters. Its larvae feed primarily on Asteraceae species, including genera Ambrosia and Xanthium. Larvae have also been recorded feeding on Chenopodium species.
