About Eophona migratoria Hartert, 1903
Eophona migratoria is 18 to 20 centimeters long, with a wingspan of 23–24 centimeters and a weight of 55 to 60 grams. Like typical finches, it has a bulky build and a large head. Its beak is very strong and conical; it is yellow with a black tip, which gives the species its common name yellow-billed grosbeak. Its body plumage is uniformly gray, darker on the back and wings, and lighter with a silver tone on the belly, with prominent brown shades on the sides. The wings are black with a rounded white spot at the tip. The tail is black, the legs are pale flesh-colored, and the eyes are brown. This species shows sexual dimorphism: the female has a gray head mask, while the male's head mask is black. This species is found in the Russian Far East, China, Manchuria and Korea. It inhabits forests, mixed woods and bamboo forests in hilly and mountainous areas. It is not wary of humans, and also enters gardens and orchards.
