About Entypus unifasciatus

Entypus unifasciatus, a species of spider wasp, has a black body with a bluish sheen, yellow antennae, and wings that range from mostly orange to mostly black with an orange band near the apex. This species ranges from transcontinental North America (excluding the northwest) down to South America. In its ecology, female Entypus unifasciatus paralyze large spiders and place the paralyzed spiders in burrows. The female wasp lays a fertilized egg on the stored spider. After the egg hatches, the larva feeds on the living but paralyzed spider until it matures into a pupa. The pupa overwinters, and emerges as a fully winged adult the following summer.
