About Engina mendicaria (Linnaeus, 1758)

Scientific name: Engina mendicaria (Linnaeus, 1758). The shell of this species reaches an adult size between 10 mm and 20 mm. The shell has a white or yellowish base color marked with a small number of transverse black bands. This yellow and black patterned shell resembles the coloration of wasps and bees, which is the origin of one of this species' common names. This species is distributed in the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean along Aldabra, Chagos, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique and Tanzania, as well as across the tropical Indo-Pacific region and Australia. These are carnivorous sea snails that inhabit rocky shores and sand beds, and they are primarily active at night.
