About Endotricha flammealis (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775
Endotricha flammealis (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775 is a moth species with a wingspan of 18–23 mm. Its forewings are oblong and rather pointed at the tip. Males have pubescent antennae. The basic wing color of this species is extremely variable; it is most commonly ochre, brown, or pale brown, but can also be pinkish brown. The forewing edge has characteristic darker brown markings and bright or pinkish lines. The front edge of the forewings also bears a series of small white spots. Some individuals may be light-colored with almost no visible markings. These moths typically hold a distinctive resting posture: they raise their head and the front portion of their body on their forelegs, while the bottom of their wings touches the resting surface. The caterpillars of this species are brownish. This species occurs in western, central, and southern Europe, as well as nearby surrounding regions. Its distribution range extends through the Caucasus to Turkey, Crimea, Cyprus, Iran, Lebanon, and Syria, and also reaches Algeria and Tunisia in North Africa. It inhabits grassland, heathland, woodland, fens, scrub, and gardens.
