About Empleurum unicapsulare (L.fil.) Skeels
Empleurum unicapsulare, commonly known as false buchu, is a South African shrub belonging to the Rutaceae family. Its distribution ranges from the southwestern districts of the Cape Province to the Uitenhage area. Commercial buchu typically refers to the dried leaves of three Agathosma species: Agathosma betulina, Agathosma crenulata, and Agathosma serratifolia. Dried commercial buchu leaves are often adulterated with leaves of false buchu, which has a more acrid taste. Buchu is used as a flavourant in brandy and tea.
