About Emmiltis pygmaearia (Hübner, 1809)
Emmiltis pygmaearia is an uncommon small moth species with a wingspan that reaches approximately 22 millimeters (0.87 inches). The basic body and wing color of this moth ranges from light brown to ocher. Both forewings and hindwings are crossed by three wavy whitish lines, and have darker colored borders. A thin brown line runs along the checkered fringed edge of the wings. This species exhibits sexual dimorphism: only males have comb-like antennae, and the brown area near the inner corner of the hindwings is much more prominent in males. Emmiltis pygmaearia is found in southeastern Europe, specifically in Croatia, France, Italy, Slovenia, and Switzerland. It is a xerothermophil species that primarily inhabits dry, grassy, low-growing areas on stony ground, occurring at elevations of up to 800 meters (2,600 feet) above sea level.
