About Emberiza pallasi (Cabanis, 1851)

Pallas's reed bunting, with the scientific name Emberiza pallasi (Cabanis, 1851), is a small passerine bird. It resembles a small reed bunting and has a small bill characteristic of granivores. Breeding males have a black head and throat, a white neck collar, white underparts, and a heavily streaked grey back; in comparison, the common reed bunting has a browner back. Females are much duller in plumage, with a streaked brown head, and have less streaking on their underparts than female common reed buntings. The male's song is a repetitive sherp. This species is common in water-side tundra scrub, and also breeds in drier open areas such as open larch forest.
