About Emberiza elegans Temminck, 1836

The yellow-throated bunting, scientifically named Emberiza elegans, is also called the elegant bunting. It is a bird species that belongs to the family Emberizidae. This species can be found in China, Japan, Korea, Myanmar, Russia, and Taiwan. Its natural habitats are temperate forests, and subtropical or tropical dry forests. Emberiza elegans performs Type II chain migration. Isotope analysis of its feathers has confirmed that northern populations of this species start migrating earlier than southern populations. The latitudinal gradient observed in hydrogen isotope levels also shows that northern breeding populations spend winters in areas that are further north than the wintering areas used by southern breeding populations.
