About Elphinstonia penia (Freyer, 1851)

Elphinstonia penia (Freyer, 1851), also known as Euchloe penia and the eastern greenish black-tip, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Pieridae. This species is found in North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, and northern Iraq. It inhabits dry, warm rocky areas. The wingspan of adult Elphinstonia penia ranges from 32 to 36 mm, and adults are colored bright greenish off yellow. The species has two generations per year, with adult butterflies active on the wing in April, and again from June to July. Its larvae feed on species from the Matthiola genus, including M. tessela and M. fruticulosa.
