About Ellipsaria lineolata (Rafinesque, 1820)

Ellipsaria lineolata has a thick, fairly triangular shell with rounded dorsal, anterior, and ventral margins. Male shells are more compressed in shape than female shells. Male shells are also typically longer: they can grow up to 12.7 cm long, while female shells grow to around 7 cm long. The outer shell surface of most E. lineolata is yellowish, though some older individuals have dark brown outer shells. The inner surface of the shell is white, and the hinge may sometimes be dark green. The beak sculpture is made up of fine, double-looped lines.
