A submarginal series of black spots is present; spots toward the outer angle are conjoined into streaks. Hindwings are bright yellow. The apical area of the hindwings is black, suffused or streaked with dark blue, and ends at vein 1b. The tips of the cilia are whitish. In terms of ecology, the larvae of Eligma narcissus feed on Canarium and Ailanthus species, including Ailanthus fordii. They have also been recorded feeding on Ailanthus altissima, Amygdalus persica, and Toona sinensis found in China.
