About Eleutherodactylus guttilatus (Cope, 1879)

Eleutherodactylus guttilatus, commonly called the spotted chirping frog or Mexican cliff frog, is a species of small Eleutherodactylid frog that is native to the southern United States and Mexico. This species occurs at moderate elevations in the Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range, spanning from the Davis Mountains in west Texas southward to the Mexican states of Coahuila, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Durango, and Guanajuato. Adult individuals of this species reach a length between 0.75 and 1.25 inches. They are easily confused with other Eleutherodactylus species that share their geographic range, which has caused some confusion around the species' taxonomic classification.
