About Eleocharis quadrangulata (Michx.) Roem. & Schult.
Eleocharis quadrangulata (Michx.) Roem. & Schult. is a species of spikesedge, commonly known as square-stem spikerush and four-angled spikerush. It is native to eastern and central North America, ranging from Texas and Florida northward to Ontario and Massachusetts. Additional populations of this plant can be found in California, Oregon, and west-central Mexico, including locations such as Durango and Jalisco. It grows in and around freshwater environments, including lakes, ponds, and other bodies of water. It is a rhizomatous perennial herb that reaches a height between 0.5 and 1 meter. Its stem is spongy, compressible, a few millimeters wide, and distinctly four-angled. The inflorescence consists of a single spikelet 1.5 to 7.5 centimeters long, which holds multiple flowers covered by light brown bracts.
