Scientific name: Elegia equisetacea (Mast.) Mast. Elegia equisetacea, commonly known as horsetail restio or broom reed, is a reed-like flowering plant species belonging to the Restionaceae family. This species is native to the southwestern Cape Provinces of South Africa. It has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit for use as an ornamental plant.
