This species is distributed across North America, and has been specifically recorded in Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Ontario, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The wingspan of adult grateful midget moths ranges from 20 to 26 mm. Adult moths are active between April and October, and produce multiple generations each year. Larvae of this species have been documented feeding on forbs, Quercus species, and dead leaves.
