About Elaphria chalcedonia Hübner

Elaphria chalcedonia, commonly called the chalcedony midget moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. It was first described by Jacob Hübner in 1808. This species can be found across North America. Within North America, it has been recorded from the eastern United States, ranging from Maine to Florida, westward to Texas, and northward to Wisconsin. It also occurs in Jamaica, Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, Puerto Rico, and Central America. The wingspan of adult chalcedony midget moths measures 24 to 28 mm. Adults can be seen flying year-round in Florida; in the northern portion of the species' range, adults are active from June to September. The larvae of this moth feed on plant species from the genera Penstemon, Scrophularia, and Mimulus.
