About Elaeocarpus hookerianus Raoul

Elaeocarpus hookerianus, with the scientific name Elaeocarpus hookerianus Raoul, is commonly called pokaka, known as pōkākā in Māori. It is a native forest tree endemic to New Zealand. This species is cold tolerant, and grows across habitats ranging from valley floors to mountainous areas. Like many native New Zealand trees, it has a distinct juvenile growth form, with interlaced branches and very small leaves.
