About Elaeocarpus decipiens F.B.Forbes & Hemsl.
Elaeocarpus decipiens F.B.Forbes & Hemsl. typically reaches 30 to 40 feet in height. Its flowers bloom from late spring to early summer, and can be white, cream, or light pink. Flowers are usually one inch or smaller in size, and are often hidden inside the plant's foliage. The fruits of this species are olive-shaped drupes, colored dark blue to black. The fruit is inedible, and measures less than one inch long. The plant produces egg-shaped leaves: new foliage tends to be redder, while mature older foliage is green. This species is native to East Asia, where its natural range covers Southern China, Vietnam, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. It grows well in USDA hardiness zones 8B to 10B, and has very high drought tolerance.
