It reaches up to 1 meter in diameter at breast height, and its base may be slightly buttressed or fluted. Its branchlets have white lenticels. The leaves are imparipinnate, with a petiole and rhachis that can grow up to 35 cm long. Leaflets are arranged opposite or subopposite on the leaf axis. The flowers are white or pinkish white, sweet-scented, and borne in cymose panicles. The fruits produced by this species are drupes. It grows in the seasonally dry tropical biome, most often in edge environments of montane, mid-altitude, or riparian forest. It can also occur in woodland and wooded grassland, at altitudes ranging from 600 to 2650 meters.
