About Eirenis rothii Jan, 1863

Eirenis rothii is a small snake species. Adults can reach a total length of 30 cm (12 in), including a 5.5 cm (2.2 in) tail. The top of the head and neck are black, marked with three or four transverse yellow lines. The black neck coloration extends downward to cover the sides of the throat. Its body is brownish yellow on the dorsal (upper) side, and white on the ventral (lower) side. At midbody, the dorsal scales are arranged in 15 rows. This snake is found in Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Turkey, and it may also be present in Iraq. Its natural habitat is shrubland, occurring at altitudes ranging from 0 to 1,500 m (0–4,921 ft). Eirenis rothii reproduces by laying eggs, meaning it is oviparous.
