About Eicochrysops hippocrates (Fabricius, 1793)

Eicochrysops hippocrates, commonly known as the white-tipped blue, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Lycaenidae. It is distributed across Africa south of the Sahara, including Madagascar. In South Africa, its range extends from East Cape along the KwaZulu-Natal coast to Eswatini, Mpumalanga, and Limpopo province. Males of this species have a wingspan of 18 to 23 millimeters, while females have a wingspan of 20 to 24 millimeters. Adult Eicochrysops hippocrates are active from September to November, and again from January to June. This species produces two generations each year. Its larvae feed on plant species from the genera Polygonum and Rumex.
