About Ehrharta calycina Sm.

Ehrharta calycina Sm. is a highly variable perennial grass. It is often rhizomatous, but not always. It typically grows to a height of 30 to 70 centimeters (12 to 28 inches), though it can grow much taller when growing conditions are favorable. Its inflorescence is an arrangement of spikelets that ranges from narrow to wide open; new spikelets are light in color, and darken to a purple or reddish tint as they age. This grass is native to southern Africa, where it occurs in South Africa (specifically the Cape Provinces, Free State, and KwaZulu-Natal), Lesotho, and Namibia. It grows in Veld grassland habitats and low-lying sandy areas.
