About Ehretia acuminata R.Br.
Ehretia acuminata is a medium to large tree that grows up to 30 m (98 ft) tall. It has grey, smooth bark, and its trunk may be fluted. It is native to multiple regions per the World Geographical Scheme for Recording Plant Distributions, and has been introduced to Mauritius, Pakistan and Réunion. Native regions include: South-Central China and Southeast China in China; Japan, Korea, Nansei-shoto and Taiwan in Eastern Asia; Assam, Bangladesh, East Himalaya, India, Nepal and West Himalaya in the Indian Subcontinent; Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam in Indo-China; Jawa, Lesser Sunda Islands, Malaya, Maluku and the Philippines in Malesia; New Guinea in Papuasia; and New South Wales and Queensland in Australia. In China, this plant grows in open forests and thickets at altitudes between 100 and 1,700 m (330 to 5,580 ft). In Australia, it occurs on the east coast, within and on the margins of rainforest and drier forest types. Its Australian range extends from far southern New South Wales (around Bega) to northeast Queensland near Cairns, and it grows from sea level up to about 800 m (2,600 ft) in altitude there. Ehretia acuminata is used for roadside planting, as timber for building and furniture, and in Traditional Chinese medicine.
