About Egretta intermedia (Wagler, 1829)
As suggested by its scientific name, the intermediate egret (Egretta intermedia) is intermediate in size between the great egret and smaller white egret species like the little egret and cattle egret. Its size is closer to that of the little egret than the great egret. This bird measures roughly 56โ72 cm (22โ28 in) in total length, has a wingspan of 105โ115 cm (41โ45 in), and weighs approximately 400 g (14 oz). It has all-white plumage, generally dark legs, and a somewhat thick yellow bill. Breeding individuals may show regional variation in features: they can have a reddish or black bill, greenish yellow gape skin, loose filamentous plumes on the breast and back, and dull yellow or pink coloration on the upper legs. Male and female intermediate egrets have similar appearance.
