About Edolisoma tenuirostre (Jardine, 1831)

The Sahul cicadabird, with the scientific name Edolisoma tenuirostre (Jardine, 1831), was previously called the common cicadabird or slender-billed cicadabird. It is a passerine bird species that belongs to the Campephagidae family. This species occurs in Australia, New Guinea, and the Bismarck Archipelago. Its natural habitats are temperate forest, as well as subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest. Most authors currently place this species in the reinstated genus Edolisoma. Mayr & Diamond (2001) described the common cicadabird as a "great speciator". In 2018, Pedersen et al. documented how this species rapidly colonized and diversified across the Indo-Pacific island region and Australia during the Pleistocene.
