About Ectoedemia populella Busck, 1907

Ectoedemia populella Busck, 1907, commonly called the poplar petiole gall moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Nepticulidae. This species is widely distributed across North America east of the Rocky Mountains. It was first described in 1907 by August Busck, a Danish-American entomologist. Adult individuals of this species have a wingspan measuring between 7 and 8.5 millimeters. The larvae of Ectoedemia populella form round, globular galls on the leaf petioles of several species in the genus Populus. Mature larvae pass the winter inside these galls, and adult moths emerge from the galls when spring arrives.
