About Ectoedemia heringella (Mariani, 1939) van Nieukerken, 1985
Ectoedemia heringella is a moth species belonging to the family Nepticulidae. This species is distributed across the Mediterranean Region, ranging from southern France, Corsica, Sardinia, and Italy east to Cyprus. It was first documented in Great Britain in 2002. The wingspan of adult moths measures 4.4–6 mm. The forewings typically bear white scales along the costa, positioned opposite the dorsal spot, but these scales do not form a separate, distinct spot. In males, an elongated patch of brown androconial scales is present on the upper surface of the hindwing and the lower surface of the forewing. Adult moths are in flight from late April through the end of June. The species has one generation per year. The larvae feed on Quercus alnifolia and Quercus ilex, and they live inside the leaves of their host plants, creating leaf mines.
