About Ecsenius pictus McKinney & Springer, 1976

Ecsenius pictus, a species of combtooth blenny in the family Blenniidae, has two different common names: it is called the white-lined comb-tooth in Indonesia, and the pictus blenny in Micronesia. This blenny species lives on coral reefs in the central Indo-Pacific region, with particularly prominent populations found in Indonesia, the Philippines, and the Solomon Islands. It grows to a maximum total length of 5 centimetres. Members of this species feed mainly on plant material, including benthic algae and weeds. Ecsenius pictus is captured and traded as a commercial aquarium fish. Its specific scientific name "pictus" is Latin for "painted", and this name refers to the species' distinctive, unusual colour pattern.
