About Echium simplex DC.

This species, scientifically named Echium simplex DC., is a biennial plant. In its first year of growth, it forms a dense leaf rosette. During the second year, it develops a distinctive inflorescence that reaches a height between 1 and 3 metres, or 3 ft 3 in to 9 ft 10 in. Its flowers are white, and it blooms from February to April when growing in Tenerife. Echium simplex is widely cultivated as a garden flower for warm temperate regions. It is very attractive to bees, and its nectar produces honey with a distinct flavour. This species is intolerant of frost, and requires long periods of sustained sunlight to grow well. It is endemic to the island of Tenerife, where it grows primarily in the Macizo de Anaga region.
