About Echis coloratus Günther, 1878

The maximum total body and tail length of Echis coloratus Günther, 1878 is 75 cm (30 in). This species is found across the Middle East and North Africa. Its confirmed range includes Egypt east of the Nile, from the country's southern border to the Sinai Peninsula; extending east, it is also found in the Negev region of Israel, the West Bank region of Palestine, and Jordan. On the adjacent Arabian Peninsula, it has been recorded in Western Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Southern Oman. The designated type locality for the species is "on Jebel Shárr, at an altitude of 4500 feet ... Midian", which is located in Saudi Arabia at 1371 m altitude. This species inhabits rocky deserts, found at elevations ranging from sea level up to 2,500 m (8,200 ft), and does not occur in sandy deserts.
