About Echiomima mythica (Meyrick, 1890)
Echiomima mythica is a moth species belonging to the family Xyloryctidae. It was first described by Edward Meyrick in 1890. This species is native to Australia, with confirmed records from the regions of New South Wales and Queensland. The wingspan of adult individuals ranges from 30 to 41 millimeters. The forewings are pale ochreous, with a slight brownish tinge toward the inner and hind margins. The costa and inner margin are narrowly suffused with yellowish brown, and a round black dot is present in the disc at two-thirds of the wing length. The hindwings are a light ochreous orange. Larvae of Echiomima mythica feed on a variety of host plant species: Ellatostachys xylocarpa, Cleistanthus cunninghamii, Waterhousea floribunda, Backhousia myrtifolia, Pongamia pinnata, Elaeocarpus angustifolius, Daphnandra species, and Carya illinoensis. The larvae bore into the stem of their host plant to develop.
