About Echeveria setosa Rose & Purpus
Echeveria setosa Rose & Purpus is an evergreen succulent. It grows to 4 centimetres (2 inches) high and 30 centimetres (12 inches) wide, forming spherical rosettes made of fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves that are covered in white hairs. These white hairs, called glochids, can cause skin irritation when touched. In spring, it produces stalks 30 centimetres (12 inches) long that hold red flowers with yellow tips. This species is cultivated as an ornamental plant. It can be grown outdoors in subtropical climates, including Southern California. Because it needs a minimum temperature of 7 °C (45 °F), it must be grown under heated glass in colder temperate regions, but can be moved outdoors during the summer months.
